**The Strategic Planning Department of the Intellectual Property Office stated at a series of press conferences held by the State Council Information Office on July 17, 2025, under the theme of \"Completing the 14th Five-Year Plan with High Quality,\" that since the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, innovation in green and low-carbon technologies in China has become more active, serving as a driving force behind the development of such technologies worldwide. From a technical perspective, Chinese patent holders obtained 53,000 invention patents related to green and low-carbon technologies in 2024, which is twice the number from 2020, representing an average annual growth rate of 19.2%. In China, the fastest growth in patent approvals was seen in the fields of clean energy and energy storage, with year-on-year increases of 34.9% and 32.8% respectively. In terms of the entities driving innovation, domestic leading companies play a significant role; 4 of them made it into the top 10 globally in terms of the number of green and low-carbon invention patents granted in 2024. These include large state-owned enterprises such as **Power Grid, China Huaneng, and Southern Power Grid, as well as private companies represented by CATL. In terms of applications from abroad, the number of PCT international patent applications related to green and low-carbon technologies in China was 6,356 in 2024, which is 2.3 times that of 2020; China has remained ranked first in the world for four consecutive years. Chinese enterprises have contributed 12,000 green technologies to the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Green Technology Platform, thus contributing to global green development.
