Recently, China’s first industrial production facility for adiponitrile using the butadiene process – the 200,000-ton per year adiponitrile plant operated by China Chemical Engineering Tianchen Qixiang New Materials Co., Ltd. – has reached full capacity. On December 5, China Chemical Engineering held a reverse roadshow for the Tianchen Qixiang adiponitrile project as well as a State-owned Enterprise Open Day event in Zibo, Shandong. Investors from well-known domestic financial institutions such as securities companies and fund companies, along with reporters from major central media outlets, gathered there to conduct on-site inspections and get a close look at the technical capabilities and development prospects of this high-end new material project. Adiponitrile is the key raw material for producing nylon 66, and it is referred to in the market as the \"throat\" of the polyamide industry chain. As a high-performance polymer, nylon 66 is about the size of a grain of rice, yet it can be stretched for 2 kilometers without breaking. Fiberglass-reinforced nylon 66 products the size of a fingernail can withstand a pressure of around 1 ton without undergoing plastic deformation. Granular flame-retardant nylon 66 products will extinguish on their own within 10 seconds when exposed to an open flame. The large-scale production of adiponitrile, known as the \"flour\" of nylon 66, means that the downstream manufacturers in the nylon industry will have access to sufficient and high-quality raw materials. This will facilitate the continued development of high-end manufacturing sectors such as automotive, rail transport, aerospace, and electronics, thereby ensuring the security of China’s high-end polyamide industry chain. This project utilizes proprietary technology developed by China National Chemical Engineering Corporation, breaking foreign monopolies and addressing critical bottlenecks. Since the project went into operation, China National Chemical Engineering has identified bottlenecks throughout the entire process, focused on improving reactor efficiency and key aspects such as distillation separation, promoted technological innovation and process optimization, and resolved operational challenges in the facility through more than 100 technical upgrades. During the recent 72-hour full-load performance test, all the key technical parameters and economic indicators of the adiponitrile plant met or exceeded the design values; the product quality remained stable and controllable, and the system operated smoothly and efficiently. The achievement of this important milestone marks the full transition of the adiponitrile plant to a new phase of efficient and stable operation.
