The process primarily utilizes delayed coking technology; the feed oil is rapidly heated to coking temperature (490–510°C) in a heating furnace, and then undergoes thermal cracking and condensation reactions in a coking tower to produce products such as coke, gasoline, diesel, wax oil, and gases. The coke produced as a result of the reactions in the coke tower is periodically removed through hydraulic coking, thereby enabling continuous production. Coking units are an important means for refineries to increase the yield of light oils and process low-quality crude oil.
