Adiponitrile (ADN) is an aliphatic dinitrile, and the most common industrial production method for it is the hydrocyanation of butadiene. This process is mature and offers high yields; however, due to the use of the highly toxic raw material hydrogen cyanide (HCN), its key to successful operation lies in strict closed-loop control over reaction temperature, catalyst efficiency, handling of toxic gases, and the recycling of large amounts of solvent. 1: Raw material preparation and pre-treatment Before entering the core reaction system, the three key materials need to be in place: The raw material IPDA (isophorone diamine, V-101): This constitutes the backbone of IPDI. Chlorobenzene solvent (V-102): This solvent is essential in the phosgene process; it is used to dilute IPDA in order to control the reaction heat, and it is recycled as an absorbent. Raw material: Phosgene (COCl₂, V-103): A key reactant, but highly toxic. These raw materials first flow into the static mixer (M-101). Static mixers have no moving parts; they utilize a special internal structure to mix fluids rapidly and thoroughly, thereby preparing them thermodynamically and dynamically for the subsequent reaction. II: The Duo of Two-Stage Cyanation Reactions (A, B & C) This is the core part of the entire apparatus, comprising the \"primary\" cyanation reaction and the reaction for the formation of adiponitrile. Stage A: Primary cyanation reaction zone (99.9% colorless to slightly yellow adiponitrile product, which is then stored in the adiponitrile (ADN) product storage tank (V-104)). This product is a high-quality raw material for nylon 66.
