Recently, the “Olefin Oligomerization and Tert-Dodecyl Mercaptan (TDM) Experimental Project” undertaken by Funo (Ningxia) Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. passed the expert evaluation organized by the Science, Technology and Information Bureau of the Ningdong Management Committee in Ningxia. 　　Chen Shaofeng, the general manager of the company, explained that thanks to this project, Funo has developed technologies for olefin oligomerization and TDM synthesis, which can significantly improve the one-pass conversion rate of propylene oligomerization as well as the selectivity for dodecene. The products produced are on par with those available abroad and can fully replace imported ones. At the same time, this technology enables olefins to react with hydrogen sulfide under low temperature and pressure conditions, offering advantages such as a simple process flow, high conversion rates, and a long catalyst lifespan. 　　Chen Shaofeng said that for a long time, China has faced technical challenges in the fields of propylene oligomerization and TDM production. Dodecene, nonene, and other compounds present in propylene oligomerization products are key raw materials for synthesizing high-performance materials. However, there are few existing production facilities in China, with limited production capacity; consequently, the product quality and output fail to meet industry demands. As a chain transfer agent in the production of synthetic rubber and plastics, TDM is expensive to import. To this end, Fono carried out research and development on olefin oligomerization and TDM test projects, completed the preparation of relevant process packages, and successfully applied them at the Ningdong Modern Coal Chemicals Pilot Plant. 　　“Currently, the propylene production capacity in China is continuing to increase, and converting propylene into high-value-added products has become an important way to utilize it. Olefin oligomerization and TDM synthesis technologies provide the technical support needed to develop high-value-added industrial chains for propylene downstream. ”Sun Bin, the R&D director at Fono, said that in the future, as production capacity in industries such as synthetic rubber grows in China and heteroolefin derivatives are increasingly used, demand for heteroolefins and TDM in the country will continue to rise. This project will help reduce China’s reliance on imports of dodecene, nonene, and TDM, thereby ensuring the security and stability of the industrial chain.
