September 18, 2015 – China’s first million-ton-scale coal indirect liquefaction oil production project with independent intellectual property rights was successfully tested today at Shaanxi Future Energy Chemical Co., Ltd. All parameters of the produced oil met the required standards, reaching the Euro V level. Once this project is brought online, it will be able to produce 1.15 million tons of oil products per year. 　　Experts say that the successful trial operation of this project represents a milestone in the industrialization of technologies for the clean and efficient use of coal in China, and it holds significant strategic importance for ensuring **energy security** and achieving **diversified energy development**. 　　Shaanxi Future Energy Chemical Co., Ltd. was established in 2011 with a registered capital of 5.4 billion yuan. It was founded by Yankuang Group, Yanzhou Coal Industry, and Yan’an Petroleum, each holding 50%, 25%, and 25% of the shares respectively. 　　As a traditional coal mining enterprise, Yankuang Group actively explores ways for the clean utilization and advanced transformation of coal. Since 2002, Yankuang has begun to form a R&D team for the indirect conversion of coal into oil, striving to develop an upgraded version of coal liquefaction technology. 　　Sun Qiwen, deputy general manager of Yankuang Group and general manager of Shaanxi Future Energy Chemical Co., Ltd., said that the estimated investment for this 1.1 million tons per year coal indirect liquefaction oil production project is 16.4 billion yuan. The project utilizes 50 patented technologies, with core technologies such as low-temperature Fischer-Tropsch synthesis possessing independent intellectual property rights. Compared with similar technologies at home and abroad, this technology offers advantages such as high selectivity for diesel, low catalyst consumption per ton of oil product, high production intensity in the Fischer-Tropsch reactor, and high energy utilization efficiency; the carbon conversion rate reaches 98% to 99%. Shaanxi Future Energy Chemical Co., Ltd., a joint-stock company established with funding from Yankuang Group Co., Ltd. and other parties, has announced that **the demonstration project – China’s first million-ton-scale coal indirect liquefaction oil production facility equipped with independent intellectual property rights – managed to complete the entire process in just 23 days, producing high-quality oil that meets Euro V standards; the trial run using raw materials was a complete success.** It is reported that since 2002, Yankuang Group has brought in Dr. Sun Qiwen, an expert in coal-to-oil technology from abroad, to establish a research and development team for indirect coal-to-oil conversion. Between 2003 and 2005, pilot tests on low- and high-temperature Fischer-Tropsch synthesis at a scale of 10,000 tons were successfully carried out, making the company the only one in the country to master both high- and low-temperature Fischer-Tropsch synthesis technologies. The coal-to-oil project of Future Energy Company began construction in June 2012, and the construction was completed this June, resulting in the creation of China’s first million-ton-scale facility for indirect coal-to-oil conversion. On July 31, the project’s gasification unit completed its first feed trial run successfully ； On August 21, the FTO synthesis unit achieved a successful first feed, producing crude oil ； On August 23, the entire process was streamlined to produce high-quality oil products. All parameters of the oil meet the requirements and comply with the Euro V standard. All devices are operating smoothly and safely. The coal-to-oil project of Future Energy Company boasts the world’s largest single-scale system for indirect coal-based oil production. When operating at full capacity, this system consumes 5 million tons of coal per year, producing 1.15 million tons of oil products and chemical goods annually, including 790,000 tons of diesel, 250,000 tons of naphtha, and 100,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas. It is also reported that the project makes use of 50 patented technologies, with core technologies such as low-temperature Fischer-Tropsch synthesis possessing independent intellectual property rights. As assessed by experts organized by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association, these technologies are at the world’s advanced level. Compared with similar technologies at home and abroad, it boasts advantages such as high selectivity for diesel, low catalyst consumption per ton of oil product, high production efficiency in FTO synthesis reactors, and high energy utilization efficiency, with a carbon conversion rate of up to 98%–99%.
