Well, the DI cards from some manufacturers cannot directly read proximity switch signals; they need to be converted into mechanical switch signals using something like a safety gate
We use a proximity switch—an isolation barrier—and a DI card to achieve this; moreover, the operating voltage of some proximity switches does not match the supply voltage of the DI card, so an isolation barrier is also necessary. It’s rare for someone to enter the DI card area without going through the isolation barrier; it’s dangerous.
