The GE CTF878 clamp-on ultrasonic gas flow meter, DigitalFlowTM CTF878, represents a complete ultrasonic gas flow measurement system suitable for measuring the vast majority of gases, including: • Natural gas • Compressed air • Fuel gases • Corrosive gases • Toxic gases • High-purity gases • Air separation gases • Other special gases. Features: • Suitable for metal pipelines at pressures down to atmospheric pressure • Clamp-on installation that does not interfere with the process flow • No contact with the fluid • No moving parts • No pressure loss • Simple installation • Standard volume flow calculation • Wide temperature range • High capability for detecting high flow rates. The development of advanced clamp-on ultrasonic gas sensors presents a challenge, as it is difficult to ensure that the ultrasonic signals emitted can pass through the metal pipe wall, through the gas, and then through the opposite pipe wall to reach another sensor ready to receive those signals. In fact, in gas systems, the percentage of acoustic energy transmitted that can actually be detected is 4.9x10-7; such a small amount of energy is far too insufficient for reliable measurement. The signal strength generated by the new GE detection and control technology’s clip-on gas sensors is 5 to 10 times that of previous ultrasonic sensors; the signals are clean with very little background noise. As a result, the CTF878 flow system performs exceptionally well even in applications involving low-density gases.
