Dear experts, I’ve been facing some control issues recently. For those control loops where there are significant fluctuations in the process parameters, such as pressure and flow rate, adjusting the PID parameters doesn’t suffice to meet the required control levels. What I don’t understand is: isn’t the purpose of control exactly to stabilize those areas where fluctuations occur in the process? Could it be that my parameter settings are still not appropriate?
Ask the instrumentation engineer to adjust the P|D parameters.
PID parameter tuning should be carried out gradually based on the control performance; the adjustment of parameters for complex control systems is very slow.
Maybe I didn’t express myself clearly. What I mean is that when there are large fluctuations in the process, even with well-tuned PID parameters, it might still be impossible to maintain control
The process fluctuates greatly; automatic mode won’t work, so use manual mode and switch to automatic once stability is achieved.
Such situations do occur, but PID control can indeed help overcome fluctuations in process parameters. However, there are many other factors at play as well, such as liquid level, the accuracy of pressure transmitters, whether control valves can meet the required performance standards, and whether the process pipelines take into account factors like vibration and conditions near the pump outlet; it’s not possible to generalize
One cannot rely on the PID controls for everything; it is the operators who are in charge of dealing with fluctuations in operating conditions, and it is up to them to decide when to switch to automatic mode. Don’t shift all the responsibility onto the instruments
