I have a question: Do the monitoring instruments that are not involved in interlocks in high-risk processes need to be displayed in the SIS system?
There’s no need, unless you’re really rich
The SIS system only accesses the points involved in interlocking; moreover, the SIS workstations are not for use by operators, but are located in the instrument engineers’ room.
Both SIS and DCS are monitored together, so it’s not necessary.
If it’s just for display, there’s no need. But I’ve found that some project design institutes create some points that lead to the SIS without any logic; so we configure them nearby, in the vicinity of the relevant interlocks, for reference purposes
There is no need at all. How much is the cost per point for the SIS system? Generally, it’s the other way around: the interlock points on the SIS are communicated to the DCS, along with alarm monitoring.
It’s not necessary; SIS is not monitored on a regular basis – it’s used for parking purposes. Generally, the important parameters displayed on SIS are transferred to the DCS for monitoring.
