The company needs to purchase a gear flow meter for measuring alkaline fluids, with a diameter of DN40 and a measurement range of 0–100 kg/h. Use a gear flow meter for alkali solution? There are moving parts that wear out easily, and the domestic materials are of poor quality as well. Why not choose an electromagnetic flowmeter?
Perhaps it’s due to cost considerations; after all, the data usage for this device is low
For low flow rates, it is recommended to use imported oval gear flow meters; gear flow meters are more suitable for large-diameter applications.

However, it requires high standards for medium cleanliness. We have used DN450 gear flow meters for loading onto ships at the 32 Alkali Wharf. At temperatures below 40 degrees, the domestically produced version (actually a joint venture product) is manufactured by Hefei Jingda. In actual use, it offers good measurement accuracy and meets the requirements for trade measurement. However, two issues arise: after some time of use, first, there are blockages – the 32% caustic soda contains black particles of unknown origin, likely due to debris falling into the delivery pipes (one section of these pipes is made of carbon steel); the 60-mesh filters are still in use. Second, long-distance pipeline transportation, with gas remaining inside the pipes, has a significant impact on measurement accuracy. . Since these two problems could not be resolved effectively, a DN250 HighAccuracy mass flow meter was used instead. The DN450 gear flow meter is used for outbound measurement in the 32-caustic soda finished product tank area, and it has met the intended objectives in actual use. However, the diameter used by the poster is DN40; if it is not possible to ensure a high level of cleanliness of the lye solution, it is recommended to use an electromagnetic flow meter. If the budget permits, imported products should be chosen; otherwise, domestic brands can be considered considering cost factors (not for use in trade measurement purposes)
The selection recommended by our design institute is a gear pump; therefore, we should follow the design institute’s recommendation as much as possible. Only if the gear pump proves to be unsuitable will we consider using another type of flow meter
When it comes to trade, quality seems to be better. The gear wheel of DN450 is stuck, which will make subsequent maintenance very difficult
The precision of the swash plate for alkaline solutions is not very high. That thing is suitable for media with high viscosity and tiny particles.
Which design institute designed it? How dare you say there’s no foul play? What the hell is a waist wheel? Many have been eliminated. I was really screwed by these mechanical flow meters.
