Why are base-type regulators used for some control loops on-site? Such as the KFP pneumatic base-type pressure regulator. Base-type regulators have the following drawbacks: 1. It can be difficult to switch base-type regulators to automatic mode sometimes, 2. Their calibration, installation, and maintenance are also relatively cumbersome. Wouldn’t it be more convenient to switch to DCS control, and the cost is not high either? Could someone talk about the advantages of base-type regulators and what their original design purpose was? The parameters controlled on-site using base controllers are often those that are not very important and only need to be monitored occasionally; in most cases, they can remain within a certain range (such as buffer pressure tanks and buffer liquid tanks). If DCS control is used, it is necessary to purchase transmitters and signal cables (for cable installation and maintenance), as well as allocate 4–20mA input channels on the DCS. Overall, the project costs and maintenance expenses are higher compared to base-type control.
There are also relatively important parameters controlled by the base-type regulator. For example, in the control of lubricating oil pressure at the engine unit’s oil station, some systems use self-acting control valves, while others employ base-type regulators. Base-type regulators are also used for adjusting the outlet pressure of certain pumps.
