【Interview Question】For a control valve used in pneumatic systems, with a diameter of DN100, a pressure difference of 100 kPa (or higher), operating at normal temperature and with ordinary liquid media, what type of control valve should be chosen? I couldn’t answer the questions asked in today’s interview; I’d like to ask for your advice.
For single-seat valves (i.e., GLOBE valves), the type – top-guided or cage-type – is determined based on the pressure rating.
What position are you interviewing for? Is there also a test on the selection of control valves?
The question itself is also not precise, unless it is intentional on the part of the examiner; in such cases several scenarios need to be considered.
It’s the most ordinary control valve ever. . . .
If there’s no operating pressure at all, then what valve should be used?
In fact, the examiner is already quite lenient – they just want to see if you have made a selection decision and whether you have some understanding or experience with control valves. Basically, any valve can be chosen. For the lowest-priced butterfly valves, if the pressure difference is greater, choose single-seat, ball, or sleeve valves.

It’s just a routine interview; when faced with something like this, I usually just say a few words perfunctorily and leave.
