There is a tank here used for measuring liquid nitrogen at low temperatures; a differential pressure gauge and transmitter are employed, and the level indication is accurate. From time to time, the level suddenly returns to zero or the maximum value. The valve is closed, and calibration against a reference standard is performed – everything works normally once it’s reinstalled. Could everyone please help identify the cause of this issue? What type of level gauge would be suitable for use in low-temperature environments?
Is it a problem with insulation? Partially vaporized? It worked normally after removing the tube for venting.
There is nothing wrong with choosing a differential pressure transmitter; the person in question should check whether there are any issues with the instrument’s power supply, grounding, cables, or the transmitter itself.

Using a differential pressure transmitter is no problem; that’s how we install them here. The cryogenic liquid vaporizes inside the pressure guide tube, serving as a barrier.
