I’ve always been curious about how electromagnetic flowmeters manage to display values in mass units; many of them show amounts in tons
It usually comes with a mass unit, provided that the density of the medium is known, allowing for manual setting
Isn’t mass just volume multiplied by density? Given that there is a medium density, what’s strange about using it as a unit of mass?
Well, your question is a bit tricky. All I can say is that everyone has their own preferences – engineers who prefer to use cubic units will design things in cubic units, while those who prefer tons will use tons. Does changing the unit mean that the flow rate will be different?

By setting the density, the mass flow rate can be displayed.
