I would like to ask those of you who have worked on projects in Xinjiang for advice. We currently have a project there, and we are considering using magnetic flap level transmitters for the outdoor tanks. Do we need to install some form of heating? Given that temperatures in Xinjiang can drop below minus 20 degrees, should we use electric heating or steam heating? Since the magnetic flaps are lined with PTFE to prevent corrosion, will high-temperature steam damage this PTFE lining? As for electric heating, how effective would it be? The explosion protection rating required is D2BT4. I hope those with experience can offer their guidance.
What kind of medium? If the temperature can drop below the freezing point, then heating is necessary; the type of heating medium depends on the specific conditions on site. I can tell you that electric heating works quite well. Of course, you get what you pay for. As for high-temperature steam, you should specify the heating medium or the design temperature when purchasing a level gauge. If the design temperature is set low, then electric heating is a good option. However, electric heating can also cause the temperature to become too high, so there are various temperature control solutions available – it’s best to consider all factors carefully

What is used for heat tracing of other devices in the plant? If it’s electricity, use electricity; if it’s steam, use steam—low-pressure steam, around 160–180 degrees. There’s no problem with your PTFE.

Electric heating elements – fast to install; they require a power supply and temperature control, or self-regulating electric heating elements can be used for applications that do not require strong heating ; However, the failure rate increases after 3-5 years, so long-term, hot water heating is better.
