Some experiences with online analytical instruments

There are some experiences and lessons that I’d like to share with everyone, so that they can be useful when making choices or engaging in technical negotiations. If there is anything incorrect, feel free to discuss it. 1. For water treatment, when the water quality is poor, especially if there is sludge present, for open-type sampling methods that use self-priming pumps or similar devices, it is essential to install a pre-filter; do not rely on the small filters provided by the manufacturers. Basket filters can be custom-made; the filter elements should be cleaned regularly. There should be two filters, one in use and one as a backup. Some transparent tubes should be used for the internal piping to facilitate observation of the sample condition. 2. For magnetooxide oxygen meters, it is necessary to calculate the offset, as some media exhibit significant magnetism. It is best to provide the manufacturer of the analysis instrument with a detailed list of the components at each measurement point, so that they can carry out the calculations. 3. When using online chromatography, it is essential to pay attention to the design of the preprocessing stage; poor design can easily lead to problems. There are many specific examples; I won’t go into detail about them all – it’s all just heartbreaking. 4. VALCO’s manufacturer provided a rapid and accurate response to the email regarding the injection valve; it is recommended to consult the manufacturer directly in case of any problems. It’s still fast – I haven’t asked the manufacturer directly through the agent yet. 5. When buying the columns, be sure to request that connectors be included; otherwise they have to be purchased separately, which is troublesome. 6. In the ASTRO TOC of the hash, inverters and UV lamps are consumable items – definitely don’t skimp on spending money on them. 7. The integration of analysis cabins may seem simple, but there are many pitfalls involved. If the project is large and the overall cost is high, it’s better to choose a reputable domestic company or a fully foreign-owned company to handle the task; this will save a lot of trouble in the long run. After all, it’s not a one-time deal, and there will also be significant maintenance requirements later on. If you choose an unreliable integrator, it may seem like you’re saving money in the short term, but you’ll have to handle many things on your own later on. 8. VALCO’s rotors are very expensive; if there is an issue with the measurement accuracy, and it is determined through elimination that the problem lies in worn rotors or something similar, it is necessary to stop using the meter as soon as possible and seek a solution.
