The factory needs to build a new centralized control room; all the existing equipment uses hard buttons on auxiliary control panels. Now, centralized control is required. If the auxiliary control panels are moved directly to the new control room, remote racks would be necessary, which incurs high costs. Petroleum industry standards don’t mention this much; chemical industry standards require that buttons be used wherever safety interlocks are involved. For reset testing, a soft button can be used. I think setting up those emergency stop buttons is the real hassle. It involves many things, such as the production process, safety, and so on.

From the perspective of design engineers, they would never take responsibility for any issues that arise from changing hard buttons to soft buttons; in other words, the design team won’t take such a risk and create a design of that kind for you. 2. In terms of the function of a hard button, it depends on the level of importance of that button. If it was designed to be a hard button out of conservatism, then it can naturally be changed to a soft button. But if SIS interlocks or the patent holder explicitly require interlocks, whoever makes the change will be held responsible; I certainly won’t take that responsibility. To put it simply, the instrument does all the work related to the process – then what’s the purpose of the process itself? Let them decide on the hard and soft buttons; the gauge’s job is just to function. Don’t take matters into your own hands, as it will only result in effort with no reward.
