Hehe, there’s a slight deviation – that’s totally normal. All flow meters have their own level of accuracy; there is an error associated with the flow meter itself, as well as an error associated with the scale. In my opinion, it’s normal for there to be a difference of around 100 to 180 pounds per load. The mass flow meters on our factory’s loading platforms and the scale always show a difference of around 100 pounds. Those at the loading platform consider the scale to be accurate while the flow meter to be inaccurate. The solution is to adjust the settings of the flow meter’s system; the coefficient used by Emerson can be adjusted between 0.8 and 1.2, with 1 being the normal value. If the readings from the scale are too high, increase the coefficient – this increased coefficient represents the additional weight divided by the total weight loaded. Conversely, the coefficient is reduced. Prerequisite: The mass flow meter should preferably be calibrated at zero point. Load it back onto the vehicle and see if there’s a difference.

Drift at the zero position is an inherent problem of mass flow meters that operate on the vibrating tube principle; it’s like a genetic disorder, an incurable issue.
