The following is an analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of some common DCS systems, in no particular order: Yokogawa DCS (CS3000) • Advantages: Wide range of system configurations, along with reliability, real-time performance, and openness ; It is compatible with components from non-CENTUM systems, offering high reliability in communication timing ; It features virtual testing capabilities, facilitating debugging and maintenance. • Disadvantages: If the controller and cards are to have G3 corrosion resistance certification, the user must specify this explicitly, and the price is relatively high. Emerson DCS (Delta V) • Advantages: Flexible system configuration, high reliability, reduced investment and engineering costs, low operational and maintenance workload ; An integrated modular software with advanced process control, equipment management, and management execution functions ; FF bus control technology is widely used. • Disadvantage: Virtual testing software must be purchased separately, which may increase costs and complexity in management. INVENSYS DCS (I/A Series) • Advantages: The system features openness, reliability, and advanced technology ; Mesh networks feature high-speed, highly redundant, point-to-point network communication capabilities ; It has its own DCS system and ESD system, with strong and reliable communication between the systems. • Disadvantage: The openness of the system sometimes needs to be specified separately, which may affect the project’s implementation timeline and costs. Honeywell Honeywell DCS (PKS C300) • Advantages: Wide range of system configurations, with reliability, real-time performance, and openness ; Full dual-redundancy design, utilizing fault-tolerant Ethernet technology; it offers powerful configurable functions, simplifies usage, and saves a great deal of time ; It features advanced predictive control, resulting in more refined control. • Disadvantage: FF bus control technology is rarely used, and its applicability is limited in scenarios that require extensive use of the FF bus. Hollyland DCS • Advantages: Uses industrial-grade RISC chips and a real-time operating system, ensuring precise, real-time, and efficient control ; Features high reliability, with various redundant designs to cope with harsh industrial environments ; It supports multiple programming languages, offers a rich range of HMI interfaces, and enables offline simulation. • Disadvantage: It uses a CS architecture, and server failures can cause the entire system to go down. Central control technology DCS • Advantages: It breaks for the first time the monopoly held by foreign companies over the control systems for China’s petrochemical core facilities ; It utilizes high-performance hardware and software platforms that support a variety of communication protocols and fieldbus standards ; It features high reliability, high real-time performance, and high security. • Disadvantage: The number of in-depth application cases in certain specific industries may be fewer compared to some international brands. Nanjing Keyuan DCS • Advantages: Highly favored in the market for its safety, reliability, sophistication, and ease of use ; It features a high-performance multi-processor architecture and modular design, supporting various communication protocols and fieldbus standards ; It features high reliability and high real-time performance, and supports remote monitoring and fault diagnosis functions. • Disadvantage: The brand has relatively weak recognition and influence in the international market. Guoneng Zhishen DCS • Advantages: Builds on conventional functions by adding advanced features such as 3D visual monitoring and video inspection ; It utilizes advanced computer and communication technologies to support a variety of communication protocols and field bus standards ; It features high reliability and high real-time performance. • Disadvantage: It may face certain challenges in expanding into sectors other than electricity and petrochemicals, as it is highly sector-specific.
