Experts, what kind of valve is the POV in this pneumatic actuator, and what is its function?
It seems like it’s trying to maintain its position by losing air, but what’s below is F.O
POV is a self-acting pressure regulator used to control the instrument air pressure supplied to the inlet valve. Is this from a foreign design? It seems quite complex; to cut off the air supply, two solenoid valves are used
Assuming that this BDV2031 shut-off valve is normally in the closed position, in the absence of a POV, this shut-off valve will gradually open as the air supply pressure decreases. With POV, once the gas supply pressure drops to a set value, the BDV2031 shut-off valve will open fully immediately (fault FO), as there is an arrow indicating rapid exhaust at the POV.
POV is a self-acting pressure relief valve, but pressure regulation doesn’t seem to make sense here, as the on/off valve has only two positions: on and off. So it seems that it’s a valve equipped with a pressure reducing and filtering device. But why isn’t the SOV-2 (ESD) placed after the pressure reducing and filtering device? Is it because there’s concern that the pressure reducing and filtering device might fail? That way, it would be safer. However, the voltage tolerance and resistance to contamination of this solenoid valve pose a challenge.
What does R mean in this POV? Does it refer to REMOTE control for shutdown, or RESET for remote reset? If this POV detects the outlet pressure through a pressure sensing tube, and gas flows through a diaphragm to push the valve open and allow gas to be released between the POV and the cylinder, then it should be a self-acting type. How is there again this R that seems to have remote functionality?
This R doesn’t seem to be a remote control; I guess it’s for on-site reset, such as manual reset at the site after an emergency POV action?
