I have a question regarding process connections for instruments: For instruments such as those for temperature, pressure, level, and flow, how should one choose the process connection? Under what conditions should threads be used, and under what conditions should flanges be used? There are many types of threads: NPT, G, R, M, BSP, etc. How to choose? There are also many types of flanges; how to choose? I would appreciate your guidance. Thank you!
You’re setting the bar too high; none of them are easy to write. . . Just to throw out an idea – the flange side wasn’t chosen by our instrumentation specialty; it was selected by the equipment connections specialty, and we followed their decision. On our end, the flanges generally comply with standards HGT20592~20635, which include the European PN series and the American CLASS series. It depends on your choice regarding the standard for the pipe connections in your equipment; it’s best to have a unified standard. Temperature sensors usually come with sleeves, so the temperature sensor core and the sleeve are connected by threads. As for whether it should be M27x2 or G3/4, etc., it is recommended to standardize this when making purchases. Whether the other end of the sleeve features threads, welding, or a flange depends on the pressure and temperature of the pipeline; generally, the design agency will handle this aspect. The same principle applies to other types of instruments. It is recommended to consult the SHT3005 automated instrument selection and design specifications, and to communicate more with the manufacturers.
