Dear instrument technicians, I work in the process area. During the training, it was mentioned that \"a dedicated local instrument air supply is provided as a redundant air source\" – what exactly does that mean?
Hehe, it’s called “instrument air” or “instrument gas source” – different names That's all. It is essentially a device that serves as a backup to provide a source for the instruments. Such as compressors, air storage tanks, etc.
Refers to the small air tank built into the valve itself. This is for the purpose of safe operation; for example, in the case of reactor relief valves with FC design, the relief valve must rely on instrument air, hence it comes equipped with a \"compressed biscuit\".
It should refer to the small air storage tank that delivers air to a specific valve on-site.
A small compressor, air tank, or nitrogen will also work.
Master, isn’t the purpose of having a separate small air tank to delay the timing at which the valves open and close when the pressure in the main air supply pipeline drops? Is a \"redundant air source\" essentially a \"delay mechanism for air supply\"?”
It’s not the delay time. Rather, when the instrument air is lost, the process requires operating valves, such as control valves; when interlock actions necessitate air supply to the actuator, a small air tank is needed. Control valve: even when the device loses instrument air, the process still requires this valve to be operated.
