An electric control valve is composed of an electric control valve actuator and a valve body, with the electric control valve actuator being the main component that controls the entire valve. From a functional perspective, electric control valve actuators are mainly divided into conventional and intelligent types. Here, we will focus on analyzing the structural components and working principles of intelligent electric control valve actuators. Traditional electric control valve actuators have relatively simple functions; basic functionality can be achieved using a servo amplifier and an actuator. However, intelligent electric control valve actuators need to carry out more complex tasks such as human-machine interaction, intelligent control, and communication, which requires the addition of new modules to those of traditional electric control valve actuators in order to support these functions. The basic functional modules of an intelligent electric control valve actuator mainly consist of a main control unit, an interface module, a power supply module, a power drive module, a servo drive control module, and a detection feedback module. The main control unit of the intelligent electric control valve actuator receives commands from the higher-level system via the CAN bus, and together with the signals sent back by the sensors monitoring the device to be controlled (such as the valve), it calculates the required speed control signal. This signal is then sent to the servo drive control module, which drives the motor to rotate, thereby enabling the opening degree of the device under control (the valve) to reach an appropriate value within an optimal time frame. The actuator of the intelligent electric control valve utilizes fieldbus communication technology to closely connect the servo amplifier and the power drive module, enabling various functions such as two-way communication between the control unit and the actuator, online calibration, self-diagnosis, and protection. This greatly improves the control accuracy and the safety of equipment operation. Due to their simple structure, ease of operation, wide temperature adjustment range, fast response time, good sealing performance, and the ability to be adjusted arbitrarily during operation, intelligent electric control valves are widely used in hot water supply systems in industries such as chemicals, petroleum, food processing, textiles, as well as hotels and restaurants.
Intelligent positioners do indeed offer better precision compared to mechanical ones, but they also have some disadvantages; their price is higher as well. Nevertheless, they are useful for achieving precise control in the chemical industry
