There should be several types of turbidimeters based on different principles: those based on the transmission of light, those based on light scattering, and there should also be those that utilize both transmission and scattering of light. It is the suspended particles in the water sample that cause the light passing through to scatter. When light shines on the surface of our water sample, there is a certain relationship between the intensity of the incident light, the intensity of the transmitted light, and the intensity of the scattered light, which is then used to calculate the turbidity.
