Who is responsible for setting the proportional-integral-derivative parameters of the control loops in chemical engineering projects? In a chemical engineering project, from design to operation, aren’t PID parameters (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) set for each control loop? This portion of information doesn’t seem to be present in the detailed design drawings produced by design institutes or engineering companies; there’s no such information in the instrument loop diagrams either.
1. The DCS manufacturer will set the initial values based on pressure, temperature, flow rate, and liquid level. 2. During the commissioning phase, process or instrumentation personnel will make fine adjustments. 3. It is best for specialized personnel to carry out these adjustments; for example, foreign companies have process control engineers who are responsible for evaluating the performance of each control loop.

In the early stages of design, the process engineering will specify the control law requirements for the control loop, such as pure proportional control, proportional-integral control, or proportional-integral-derivative control. The automation engineering department will select controllers based on the requirements of the process control principles, while the DCS supplier will set the initial values for the controller parameters according to temperature, flow rate, pressure, level, and physical properties (such as composition and viscosity). During the driving commissioning phase, the owner, the designer, the process engineering team and the automation engineering team from the construction company work together to adjust the controller parameters.
