The mud pit is 6 meters deep; there, the stirring and vibration at the bottom are quite intense, and there is a lot of water vapor as well. Ultrasonic waves and radar signals are also affected by these conditions. The static pressure poses a risk of the wires being broken due to the stirring. Are there any better methods? I’d appreciate some recommendations
For your selection, use an immersion-type pressure transmitter; add a steel casing around it and make some holes at the bottom of the casing – that’s all
Hydrostatic pressure refers to an immersed pressure transmitter, with the consideration that the walls of the mud pit where the cable is located are not disturbed
You might consider a laser level gauge
A radar level gauge should work; choose one with a higher transmission frequency, such as 80 GHz
It depends on your process. If it’s a sludge tank for wastewater treatment, then you should measure the depth of the sludge; the water on top is removed through overflow. Once the sludge reaches a certain height, the sludge pump is activated to transport the sludge to a facility where it can be compressed and dried. I’m not sure if you’re referring to this process? If you are only measuring the liquid level, I think a float with a rod is the best option; it uses the principle of magnetostriction. Static pressure methods won’t work, as the depth of the mud can vary, leading to inaccurate measurements. Radar is also affected by water vapor, and even guided-wave radar may not provide accurate results; therefore, a buoyancy-based method is the only viable option.
Float balls can also get stuck easily in sludge.
If a measuring tank can be installed on site, using a capacitive level gauge is also worth considering
Installing wave-damping barrels or guide pipes; if it’s only for measuring the mud level, a mud-surface detector can be considered
