I’m not sure what stage you’re at; you can refer to the security lifecycle of SIS systems mentioned in the standards. First, conduct a hazard identification for the project (such as Hazard and Operability Analysis or Hazop). You can carry out this analysis on your own or delegate it to a third party; in either case, it is best to involve the design team. Then, a safety integrity analysis (such as LOPA) is conducted on those scenarios with high inherent risk or severe consequences; this is usually carried out by a third party, and it is also advisable to involve the design team in this process. This helps determine which interlock circuits are necessary, and the design team is responsible for designing those interlock circuits (a Safety Requirements Specification SRS exists during the design process, and it is best to produce such a document). Once the design is completed, you can purchase the relevant equipment; it’s advisable to have a third party carry out safety integrity level verification calculations (SIL verification) at this stage, so that the equipment can be replaced promptly if it does not meet the requirements. If the verification is successful, it indicates that the device meets the safety integrity requirements; the device can then be installed, tested, and put into production, with regular inspections and maintenance to be carried out thereafter.
