Today, a technician brought a portable pH meter for me to calibrate. I tried calibrating it at points 4 and 7, but I wasn’t sure about the procedure and felt a bit anxious. Has anyone used this before? Sharing some experience, thank you! {:9028:}
The steps for calibrating a portable pH meter are roughly as follows: 1. Prepare standard buffers: You need at least two buffers with known pH values for calibration; buffers with pH 4.00 and pH 7.00 are commonly used. These two buffers can be purchased at science supply stores. 2. Clean the pH meter electrode: Gently shake the electrode part of the pH meter in water to remove any remaining dust or impurities. 3. First calibration: First, immerse the electrode in a buffer with a pH of 7.00. Once the reading has stabilized, follow the steps outlined in your pH meter’s instructions to set the meter’s reading to 7.00. 4. Rinse the electrode: Wash the electrode in distilled water or deionized water, then gently dry it with a paper towel. 5. Second calibration: Immerse the electrode in a buffer with a pH of 4.00; once the reading has stabilized, follow the steps outlined in the instructions again to set the pH meter’s reading to 4.00. 6. Finally, rinse the electrode: As in step 4, clean and dry the electrode. Your pH meter has now been calibrated successfully. During the operation, be very careful not to damage the electrodes, and avoid letting fingers or other objects that could contaminate the buffer come into contact with it. Before each use of the pH meter, it is necessary to perform the calibration steps mentioned above to ensure accuracy. The above steps are the calibration procedures for most pH meters; for specific calibration methods, you should refer to your pH meter’s manual. .
There must be a verification interface in the mode functions; activate that verification function, find someone familiar with operating pH meters, and it should take about 30 minutes to complete the task. There are only a few standard buffer solutions used for calibrating pH meters; it’s possible to do this automatically or manually. With this type of instrument, it shouldn’t be a problem to figure it out on your own without referring to the instructions.
