Since graduating from university, I have worked for private chemical companies, having been employed at two such companies, each with over 500 employees. What I want to say is that if you decide to work in the instrumentation industry, having solid technical skills is an essential requirement; even if you eventually reach a management position, it should still be a management role that combines technical and managerial skills in equal measure. Of course, that’s something for later. I think since you’re able to ask such a question, you’ve probably not been working in this field for long and are still a bit confused. Here are a few suggestions for your future learning and development: first, at the beginning of your career, listen more, observe more, ask more questions, learn more theory, and spend time on the job site. There is a great deal of diverse knowledge related to instruments; topics such as control systems, instruments, and valves all require a solid foundation to be mastered properly. When encountering problems, one should not settle for half-measures; instead, one needs to delve deeper into them, especially by conducting post-event analysis and summarization. Furthermore, after working for a while, one needs to become familiar with industry standards and national regulations – this can be considered the foundation for those engaged in instrument maintenance, construction, and inspection work; it represents an advancement in one’s skills. Those who excel in technical work are those with solid skills – they are able to identify and resolve problems quickly, which earns them genuine admiration and respect from others. Speaking of career prospects, take the people around me as an example: after working for seven or eight years, those who were team leaders or engineers in their same class had already achieved a lot.
