The Shenhua Yulin project is set to set another new record – it will feature the world’s largest water-coal slurry gasifier, with a coal feeding capacity of 3,100 tons per day, which is higher than that of the current units with a capacity of 3,000 tons per day. It seems that domestic technology will soon enable the development of even larger gasifiers.
This design institute is also one of the large-scale design institutes in China

The actual coal feeding rate of the 3,000-ton four-nozzle unit currently in operation has long exceeded 3,100 tons. The 4,000-ton class four-nozzle water-coal slurry plant, built simultaneously with Shenhua Yulin, is also under construction; it is likely to come online earlier than Shenhua Yulin’s so-called 3,100-ton plant! The tonnage level isn’t really the key; what matters is the gas generation volume under similar coal quality conditions and with the same amount of coal fed in!
I have doubts about this as well; Harbin Boiler indeed wasn’t well-known for producing gasification furnaces before – there was no talk of it at all in the past, and it was only in the last one or two years that they started to get involved in the manufacturing of such furnaces. Secondly, it is also rare for Chengda Engineering to design gasification islands and provide technical services. It’s really surprising that the three institutes that are truly expert in designing gasification islands – East China Institute of the Third Academy, Tianchen of the First Academy, and Hualu of the Sixth Academy – didn’t manage to obtain such islands.
The EPC for gasification hasn’t been decided yet; it doesn’t have to be Chengda
This Hagao gasification furnace is purely a loss-making venture!
