Air Products’ Lu’an gasification project comes online

Recently, Air Products announced that its Luan An gasification project located in Changzhi City, Shanxi Province, has come online, supplying syngas and other industrial gases to the syngas-to-oil project operated by Shanxi Luan An Coal-based Clean Energy Co., Ltd. (Luan An Clean Energy). This is Air Products’ first global gasification project. 　　It is reported that the gasification project includes 4 large-scale air separation units, 4 gasification furnaces, and two syngas purification systems. These facilities are currently operating at full capacity to support a major domestic clean energy demonstration project—the Lu’an High-Sulfur Coal Clean Utilization Integrated Oil, Chemical, Power, and Heat Generation Demonstration Project. 　　It is understood that in 2013, Air Products signed an agreement with Shanxi Lu’an Mining (Group) Co., Ltd. to build and operate four large-scale air separation units for its subsidiary Lu’an Clean Energy in Changzhi, capable of producing over 10,000 tons of oxygen, over 6,000 tons of nitrogen, and over 700 tons of instrument air per day. In September 2017, Air Products and Lu’an Clean Energy established a joint venture, holding 60% of the shares. Both parties jointly own and operate the air separation units as well as the gasification and syngas purification facilities at the Changzhi plant. This move expanded Air Products’ supply of industrial gases to the areas of gasification and syngas.
