Why Yankuang’s gasification technology is so popular Author/Source: China Chemical Industry News Date: 2018-10-15 Clicks: 14 A total of 158 gasifiers have been transferred to 57 users. “At present, all the gasification units in our three production bases use the multi-nozzle opposed water-coal slurry gasification technology, which yields excellent results; we will strengthen cooperation in the future.” ”Zhang Chao, the gasification supervisor of the fourth branch of Henan Xinlianxin Fertilizer Co., Ltd., told a reporter from China Chemical Industry News. The multi-nozzle gasification technology, jointly developed by Yankuang Group and East China University of Science and Technology, has been licensed to 57 users at home and abroad, resulting in a total of 158 gasification units. This is what journalists learned at the 6th International Symposium on the Promotion and Application of Multi-nozzle Opposed Gasification Technology, held in Hefei recently. High effective gas yield \"Compared to other coal slurry gasification technologies, the multi-nozzle gasification technique achieves a higher effective gas yield, thereby enabling nearly maximum utilization of coal resources.\" ”Ma Xiaodong, an engineer at Wanhua Chemical (Ningbo) Co., Ltd., told the reporter. Ma Xiaodong explained that they built 3 1,000-ton multi-nozzle opposed water-coal slurry gasifiers, which were put into operation in November 2010. The gasifiers have a diameter of 3,200 millimeters and an operating pressure of 6.5 MPa; two are in use while one is on standby. Each gasifier produces 183,000 standard cubic meters of gas per hour, with an effective gas content of 83.5%. “Among various types of furnaces, the effective gas content of GE furnaces is 79%; that of multi-nozzle opposed water-coal slurry gasification furnaces exceeds 80%, with some companies achieving even 84%, while Huachang Chemical has a value of 81%. Our gas production rate is 110,000 standard cubic meters per hour; an increase of 1% would result in an additional 1,100 standard cubic meters of usable gas per hour. ”Li Fuwen, the deputy chief engineer for processes at Jiangsu Huachang Chemical Co., Ltd., spoke on the topic. Li Fuwen said that compared with the old system, after applying multi-nozzle gasification technology and carrying out technical upgrades based on the company’s actual conditions, the new system has seen a reduction in coal consumption, electricity consumption, and oxygen consumption on an annual basis, while steam production has increased significantly. Looking at the coal consumption in the gasification system (based on the coal supplied to the plant), it was 17 kilograms of coal per ton of ammonia less in 2018 compared to 1327 kilograms per ton of ammonia in 2017. High carbon conversion rate Downstream application companies also place great emphasis on one key indicator: the carbon conversion rate, which is an important indicator of the efficiency of coal utilization. Li Fuwen said that the carbon conversion rate of the multi-nozzle gasification furnace is over 93%, while the residual carbon in the slag is less than 5%, around 3% actually, which indicates that most of the carbon in the coal has been converted. Guan Jianjian, an engineer at Wanhua Chemical Group Co., Ltd., told reporters: “Due to the opposite arrangement of the nozzles, during production the coal slurry and oxygen collide and mix forcefully inside the furnace, resulting in six flow streams. The residence time is long, allowing for thorough reaction of the materials; as a result, the carbon content in their slag is below 1%.” ” Guan Jianjian emphasized that the heat exchange efficiency of multi-nozzle gasifiers is also very high, reaching 100%. Stable operation with excellent performance \"We use a multi-nozzle opposed water-coal slurry gasification technology. The gasifiers operate in a 2-operating-1-backup mode; each gasifier can process 1,455 tons of coal per day on a dry basis, producing 104,000 standard cubic meters of syngas per hour (on a dry basis, CO+H2).\" Through years of process optimization and technical upgrades, the gasifier has achieved safe, stable, long-term, efficient operation, with all the bottleneck issues that affected its stable operation over extended periods having been resolved. Over the past 6 years of use, each drive has been successful on the first attempt. ”Xu Chao, the gasification director at Anhui Huayi Chemical Co., Ltd., said. Xu Chao said, “Taking 2017 as an example, the average operating load of the gasification furnace throughout the year was 103%, and the furnace was shut down a total of 10 times.” Throughout the year, Unit A of the gasifier was in operation for 204.4 days, Unit B for 256 days, and Unit C for 240.5 days. The longest operating time for a single gasifier was 103 days, with an average annual operating time of 70 days per gasifier. As the operational skills of employees and the quality of inspection and maintenance improve, the service life of some key equipment is extended. The average service life of the refractory bricks in the dome and upper cylinder is over 12,000 hours, that in the lower cylinder is over 15,000 hours, and that in the conical base is over 6,000 hours. The burner can operate for over 90 days, meeting the requirements of the gasifier’s operating cycle. ” The first phase of Rongxin Chemical’s 1.8 million tons per year coal-to-methanol project included the construction of 3 multi-nozzle gasification units, and on June 24, 2014, Gasifier A was successfully commissioned for the first time. This unit is one of the coal slurry units in operation around the world with the highest daily coal processing capacity per furnace. At present, the gasification unit and the entire production system are operating stably, and the performance and technical specifications of this unit are at the international leading level. Optimization and upgrades continue unabated. Building on its wide-ranging applications, Yankuang Group and East China University of Science and Technology have continued their research on gasification technology. According to Zhang Junxian, the chief engineer of Yankuang Guotuo Company, the R&D projects they are working on include research on multi-nozzle opposed water-coal slurry gasification reactors with a quenching process. The design for these reactors has been completed, and the process software package was developed in December 2017. An industrial demonstration plant is being built at Yanzhou Coal Industry Yulin Energy Chemical Co., Ltd.; this plant will be capable of processing 2,000 tons of coal per day using such reactors. Installation of the plant is expected to be completed by July 2019, with trial operations starting by the end of December 2019. Together with East China University of Science and Technology, we are undertaking the industrial demonstration project for an ultra-large-scale water-coal slurry gasification unit capable of processing 4,000 tons of coal per day under the **Key R&D Program**. A 4,000-ton capacity ultra-large water-coal slurry gasifier is planned to be built at Yankuang Inner Mongolia Rongxin Chemical Co., Ltd., with completion and commissioning expected in June 2019. In response to the various factors that affect the quality of water-coal slurry products, Guotuo Company has developed additives for water-coal slurry in coal gasification units, in order to address issues such as frequent changes in coal types, difficulties in forming slurry, and low slurry concentration in Xinjiang and the Shaanxi-Mongolia region. In addition, Guotuo Company will also carry out the construction of intelligent gasification factories, including the establishment of a big data platform to monitor the operation data of gasification units in real time, as well as providing free remote technical support.
