For methanol production plants using coke oven gas, the high nitrogen content in coke oven gas leads to an increased level of purge gas in the syngas; assistance is needed for cause analysis!
If the quality of the coal remains unchanged and operations continue in the coke oven, especially with regard to the smoke exhaust and dust removal systems, the pressure to meet environmental standards results in a high suction force from the ammonia solution used for this purpose, which leads to an increased amount of air being drawn in. This results in a high nitrogen content in the gas.
The fundamental cause is a design issue; during coal loading, a large amount of air in the carbonization chamber is drawn into the gas collection ducts, and the problem must be addressed at the design level!
The oxygen content in gas should be below 0.5%, right? . . With such a low oxygen level, the gas will explode
High-pressure ammonia water is used for smoke guidance and dust removal, as well as for compacting coal cakes; coal is loaded from the side. The typical loading time is around 4 minutes. Air is introduced during coal loading, which results in high levels of oxygen and nitrogen. Additionally, a 5-6% oxygen content – is that not too high? It’s not suitable even for methanol production, and the desulfurization unit cannot accept such conditions either; electric tar collectors also cannot handle it
