If the gasified raw coal is used improperly, it can cause a series of problems such as blockage of the slag outlet in the gasification furnace and damage to the water wall; in severe cases, this can lead to the shutdown of the entire system. Therefore, the gasifier can only use “high-quality feedstock,” that is, high-grade coking coal. As Ningxia Coal Company expands its coal-to-oil chemical industry, the demand for coal for gasification increases significantly, leading to a shortage of high-quality coking coal; this shortage has become a challenge for the development of this industry. To overcome these challenges, the Coal Chemistry Industry Technology Research Institute, relying on innovation platforms, has carried out in-depth research on the core technologies for the clean conversion and utilization of low-grade coal, and has successfully developed techniques for controlling the melting properties of coal ash. At the same time, through extensive research and field visits, a coal quality database for the Ningdong mining area was established, and a set of quality criteria for dry coal powder and water-coal slurry used in gasification was developed. This enables accurate prediction and adjustment of matching for coal sources from different regions with varying quality levels. It also allows for accurate prediction of the suitability of coal from different mines for use in gasification units within the coal-to-chemicals industry, thus providing a solution to the problem of using coarser quality coal in gasifiers. By relying on effective formulas for precisely mixing and adjusting the coal used as feedstock for gasification, there is no longer any need to worry about issues such as blockages at the slag outlet of the gasification furnace or damage to the water cooling walls caused by improper use of coal quality; even coal from Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia can be used without problems. Gasifiers that could only use high-quality fuel no longer have to worry about running out of fuel. At the same time, since the gasification furnace is capable of processing coarse coal, the refined coal produced by Ningxia Coal Company could be sold externally, which significantly improved the company’s overall economic efficiency.
