Diesel is divided into two main categories: light diesel (with a boiling point range of approximately 180–370°C) and heavy diesel (with a boiling point range of approximately 350–410°C). The most important properties of diesel in terms of performance are flammability and fluidity, with their technical indicators being cetane number and pour point, respectively. The process of blending and mixing is already well-developed in China. Companies such as Shenhua Coal-to-Oil (Baotou, Inner Mongolia), Lu’an Coal-to-Oil (Changzhi, Shanxi), Yitai Coal-to-Oil (Dalu Park, Ordos, Inner Mongolia), and Yankuang Coal-to-Oil (Yulin, Shaanxi) are all operating successfully in the production of oil from coal, as well as in the hydrogenation of coal tar to produce gasoline and diesel. These examples can serve as a model for reference.
