The Linde mixer in the Texaco gasification coal slurry tank shuts down automatically via interlock at a liquid level of 10%. Is this chain there to protect the mixer? What damage does operating at a low liquid level of around 10% for a long time cause to the agitator? In addition to the shaft bending, there is a seal leakage. Have any peers operated at low levels for a long time?
Running it for an extended period is definitely not worth it; at low liquid levels, the agitator’s vibrations increase, accelerating its wear and tear.
