In the coking industry, desulfurization of coke oven gas is a key process in the chemical production units, and it represents the most challenging operation and maintenance issue for companies. With increasingly stringent environmental regulations and the regular use of high-sulfur coal, traditional HPF desulfurization units commonly face problems such as uncontrolled by-product salts, system imbalance, inadequate desulfurization efficiency, and difficulties in handling waste liquids, all of which severely hinder production stability. II. Advantages of advanced manufacturing processes: cost reduction and stable operation achieved simultaneously. 1. Integrated design: small footprint and high degree of automation. The complete set of zero-waste technology units are concentrated within an independent framework, resulting in a compact layout and reduced space requirements. It is suitable for upgrading existing desulfurization systems without affecting their normal operation; it can be connected directly after installation. At the same time, the complete set of equipment has a high degree of automation, allowing one person per shift to carry out all the operations. 2. Pulp-based sulfur melting: Steam consumption is significantly reduced. Compared with traditional sulfur foam melting, steam loss is greatly diminished, resulting in notable energy-saving effects. The traditional sulfur melting process consumes 5–10 tons of steam per ton of sulfur, while after the modification, this consumption is reduced to less than 1 ton per ton of sulfur, resulting in a savings of over 80%. 3. Backed by a high-efficiency GLT catalyst, desulfurization is more efficient; the GLT catalyst offers a high desulfurization rate, and replacing the existing catalyst can quickly improve efficiency. Process modifications are carried out to adapt absorption and regeneration balances based on the operational conditions, thereby further improving the performance of the salt suppression and anti-clogging towers. III. Practical testing! The projects in Shanxi are operating stably. The GLT “zero wastewater” technology package has been implemented in two coke oven gas ferrous sulfate desulfurization systems in the Shanxi region, where it operates continuously and steadily. This approach truly achieves: (1) zero wastewater discharge, (2) full utilization of sulfur as a resource, (3) long-term stability of the system, and (4) significant reduction in operation and maintenance costs.
