China’s first dimethyl disulfide production facility enters trial operation / Author/Source: Date: 2017-07-13 Clicks: 22 On July 13, Guanghui Energy Co., Ltd. announced that its subsidiary, Xinjiang Guanghui Luyou Sulfur Chemical Co., Ltd., had recently succeeded in producing dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) with a purity of 99.74%; the entire production process was now operational, and the facility has officially entered the trial operation phase. The “40,000 tons per year of dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) along with 10,000 tons per year of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)” project utilizes a domestically developed methanethiol sulfidation method for the precise production of DMDS along with DMSO. The raw materials used are mainly methanol supplied by the company’s Hami coal chemical plant and hydrogen sulfide from waste gases, with the resulting products being DMDS and DMSO. The announcement states that as China’s first dimethyldisulfide testing facility, the operation of this device will completely resolve the problem of hydrogen sulfide emissions from the Hami coal chemical plant, fill a gap in the company’s fine chemical products portfolio, and bring significant economic, social, and environmental benefits. Dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) is regarded as an intermediate for pesticides and dyes, and is mainly used as a raw material in chemical products; dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is known as a \"universal solvent\" – it has wound-healing properties in medical applications and possesses a strong ability to penetrate tissues. The project utilizes a DMDS co-production DMSO manufacturing facility, which features high hydrogen sulfide utilization efficiency and low costs; it produces high-quality organic sulfur chemical products that are widely supplied to industries such as petroleum, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, electronics, synthetic fibers, plastics, and printing and dyeing, offering good market prospects.
