Jilin’s 600,000-ton methanol-to-olefins plant is set to be completed and put into operation. Author/Source: Date: 2017-08-21 Clicks: 46 On the morning of August 18, Ba Yinchaolu, Secretary of the Jilin Provincial Party Committee, Liu Guozhong, Governor of the province, and Huang Yanming, Chairman of the Provincial Political Consultative Conference, inspected the construction progress of Cornell’s 600,000-ton/year methanol-to-olefins project. Song Zhiping, Chairman of Cornell Group, Zhang Yunzhi, Executive Chairman, Wang Daxiang, General Manager of the group, and Li Bo, Party Secretary, accompanied them on the inspection. Song Zhiping provided a detailed explanation regarding the progress of this project. It is reported that as of now, the civil construction for Cornell’s 600,000 tons per year methanol-to-olefins project is 100% complete, equipment installation is 100% finished, process pipeline installation is 99.1% complete, and pipeline hydrotesting is 91.43% complete. At the same time, the underground works and all above-ground utility systems for Phase 2 of the project were completed, transforming the project site completely. At present, the project construction is nearing completion; purging operations are underway at the site as preparations are made for commissioning. Completion is expected on October 15, with qualified products available by October 30. As an important chemical industry project to complete the industrial chain in Jilin City during its 13th Five-Year Plan period, as well as one of Jilin City’s \"Double Ten\" projects this year, after more than ten months of intensive construction, the first phase of this project is about to be completed and put into operation, setting a record for the fastest construction speed of such facilities. Moreover, this project is the only methanol-to-olefins plant in the Northeast region that is ready for operation. The total investment in this project is 4.9 billion yuan. Once the 600,000-ton methanol-to-olefins plant is operational, it will generate sales revenue of 4.806 billion yuan, profits of 630 million yuan, and taxes of 450 million yuan. This project will open up a new source of chemical raw materials for Jilin City, overcoming the constraints imposed on the existing chemical industry by shortages of basic raw materials such as ethylene and propylene. It will also spur the development of numerous chemical enterprises along the ethylene and propylene value chain, including Zhongxin Chemical, Bohai Biochemical, Jilin Chemical Fiber, and Jishen Chemical, as well as related industries. Cornell’s 600,000 tons per year methanol-to-olefins project utilizes UOP’s MTO+OCP technology and Hyosung Engineering’s high-yield olefin separation technology. Huisheng Engineering is responsible for the overall design, procurement, and construction of the methanol-to-olefins reaction and concentration units, the olefins separation unit, the olefins cracking unit, as well as some of the auxiliary facilities in this project.
