What is the function of a demister? A demister is a type of separator that primarily serves to separate the liquid entrained in gases, thereby preventing contaminated gases from causing liquid loss.
Demisters are used to separate the liquid droplets carried in the gas within the tower, thereby ensuring efficient mass transfer, reducing losses of valuable materials, and improving the operation of the compressor located after the tower. This helps to reduce water content and extend the lifespan of the compressor; demisters are generally installed at the top of the tower. It can effectively remove fog droplets of 3–5 um. If a demister is installed between the trays, it not only ensures the mass transfer efficiency of the trays but also reduces the spacing between them. Therefore, wire mesh demisters are mainly used for gas-liquid separation. It can also be used for gas separation on air filters.
