Construction has begun on the 200,000-ton per year coal-to-ethylene glycol project at Longyu Coal Chemical Co., Ltd., part of Henan Energy and Chemical Group. The total investment for this project is estimated at 1 billion yuan, and upon completion and operation, it is expected to generate annual revenue of 1.4 billion yuan. 　　 Longyu Coal Chemical currently has facilities with an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons of methanol, 400,000 tons of acetic acid, 200,000 tons of dimethyl ether, and 200,000 tons of ethylene glycol. Once the new ethylene glycol facility is completed, it will be connected to these existing facilities that are already operating at full capacity, thereby improving the economic efficiency and stability of their operations. 　 At present, the project has completed its approval and registration procedures; the assessments related to safety, the environment, and occupational health have also been finalized. Contracts for the main long-term-use equipment, such as compressors and synthetic hydrogenation reactors, have already been signed. The project of Henan Longyu Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. to produce 200,000 tons of ethylene glycol per year from excess synthesis gas is located in the industrial cluster area of Yongcheng City. The investment in this project amounts to 1 billion yuan; it will make use of all the excess synthesis gas available in the park, which amounts to 50,000 standard cubic meters per hour. Once completed, it will also be able to communicate and interact with other devices in the park; substantial progress has already been made regarding the funding for the project and the land allocation. Henan Longyu Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary controlled by Yongmei Company of Henan Energy and Chemical Group, with a factory area of 76.3 hectares. The first-phase project with an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons of methanol is a key construction project under Henan Province’s 11th Five-Year Plan. It utilizes Shell’s pressurized coal gasification technology, and converts 1.27 million tons of coal and coal gangue per year. The main products are 500,000 tons of refined methanol and 200,000 tons of dimethyl ether per year, while the by-products include 4,000 tons of sulfur and 15,000 cubic meters of liquid argon. The second-phase project, with an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons of acetic acid, is planned to require an investment of 4.7 billion yuan. The project mainly includes an acetic acid production unit, a pentagonal furnace gasification unit, an air separation unit, a syngas purification unit, a sulfur recovery unit, as well as utility and auxiliary production facilities.
