The \"2018 China Nitrogen Fertilizer and Methanol Technology Conference\" took place from July 6 to 8 in Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province, a place known as the \"Land of Mountains and Rivers Inside and Outside\" as well as the \"Hometown of Guan Yu\". More than 260 people from over 130 organizations, including manufacturers of nitrogen fertilizer and methanol products, companies specializing in technical equipment and materials engineering, design institutes, and consulting firms, attended the conference. This conference is co-organized by Yangmei Fengxi Fertilizer (Group) Co., Ltd., with support provided by Shanxi Yangmei Chemical Machinery (Group) Co., Ltd. and Nanjing Changrong Acoustics Co., Ltd. Li Yongwu, President of the Third Council of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation; Gu Zongqin, President of the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association; Chen Jie, Member of the Yuncheng Municipal Party Committee and Executive Vice Mayor; Linghu Jianshe, Chief Engineer of Yangquan Coal Group; Cheng Yanbin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Yangquan Coal Chemical Group Co., Ltd. – among other leaders – attended the meeting, which was chaired by Wang Liqing, Secretary-General of the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association. President Li Yongwu highly praised the annual \"China Nitrogen Fertilizer and Methanol Technology Conference\" organized by the Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association for its growing scale, increasingly rich content, and status as a renowned event in the industry. He acknowledged the important role played by this conference in promoting technological advancement, as well as innovative and sustainable development within the industry. President Gu Zongqin delivered a keynote speech titled \"Innovation-Driven, Green Development: Striving to Promote Technological Upgrades in China’s Nitrogen Fertilizer and Methanol Industries.\" He reviewed the achievements in industry production and technological development in 2017, outlined the efforts made by the association over the past year to advance technological progress in the industry, analyzed the existing problems in terms of technological innovation within the industry, and identified the key priorities and directions for such innovation this year. President Gu Zongqin called on the industry to carry out the following six tasks in terms of technological innovation: First, continue to work on reducing overcapacity in order to effectively promote structural reforms on the supply side ; Second, seize the favorable opportunities of \"relocation and transformation\" as well as \"moving out of cities into industrial parks\" to further promote the transformation and upgrading of industries ; Third, it is to promote the high-quality development of existing production capacity and improve the overall operational level of the industry ; Fourth, increase efforts in independent innovation to break through a number of key core technologies ; Fifth, make efforts to overcome environmental protection challenges and improve the level of clean production in the industry ; Sixth, with the goal of promoting technological innovation, it actively carries out service-oriented work for industry associations. The conference awarded the \"2017 Technical Progress Awards for the Fertilizer and Methanol Industries\", and honored the \"Advanced Units and Individuals in Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction within the Fertilizer and Methanol Industries for 2017\". This conference aims to promote innovative, green, and high-quality development in the industry; it focuses on the current hot topics and challenging issues within the sector to plan and organize the exchange activities during the conference. Zhao Zhejun, General Manager of Yangmei Fengxi Fertilizer (Group) Co., Ltd., reported on the company’s progress in innovation and development, transformation and upgrading, as well as its efforts to build itself into the most competitive modern chemical enterprise group. During the conference, the winners of the key projects for the \"2017 Technical Progress Awards in the Nitrogen Fertilizer and Methanol Industries\" held technical exchanges and presented reports on the achievements and experiences related to their projects. Yangmei Chemical Machinery shared the development process and technical features of the \"Water-Coal Slurry Water-Cooled Wall Waste Boiler Gasifier (Jinhua Furnace)\", which won the special prize; Zhejiang Shaoxing Chemical and Henan Xinlianxin presented information on the \"Water-Coal Slurry Gasification and High-Temperature Melting Integrated Treatment Project for Hazardous Waste\" and the \"Energy-Saving Technology for Integrated Turbomotor Pump Systems\", projects that received the first prize; Luxi Chemical reported on the \"Device and Process for Removing Hardness from Ash Water in Powder Coal Gasifiers\", which earned the third prize. The conference focused on discussions regarding the establishment of environmental protection standards and new environmental protection technologies. Cao Zhanggao, the chief engineer of the China Fertilizer Industry Association, presented a report on the development of guidelines for atmospheric pollutant emissions in the fertilizer industry (specifically for nitrogen fertilizers), and outlined the key priorities for environmental protection efforts in this sector over the next few years ; Nanjing Changrong Acoustics, Jiangnan Environmental Protection, and the American company Cormerie conducted analyses on the issues of colored smoke trails resulting from boiler flue gas and urea granulation exhaust, as well as the high levels of particulates and ammonia, and exchanged information on technical measures for preventing and controlling these problems ; China Coal Tuoke was invited to present an update on their technology for the quality-controlled crystallization of concentrated salt solutions, as well as on the operation of the related equipment. Green Granulation Technology Co., Ltd. reported on a new milestone in the development of their urea granulation technology: the latest progress in the research and development of GGT additive-free urea fluidized bed granulation technology. The meeting also reported on the operation of China’s first million-ton urea plant utilizing domestic technology, as well as the first pilot plant for the production of 10,000 tons per year of synthetic ammonia using iron-ruthenium catalysts.
