During the design phase, dissimilar steels of Q345/316L were used for the transformed gas and untransformed gas pipelines; due to the requirements of downstream equipment, cross connections have now been added to the two main pipes for these gases. Conditions: 1. Since the cross-line pipe diameters are 24\" and 20\", and the busbar pipe diameters are 44\" and 36\", the operating pressure is 3.5/3.71 MPa, and the operating temperature is 40°C. Design pressure: 4.8 MPa, Design temperature: 80℃ ; 2. The wall thicknesses of the original pipes 44\" and 36\" are 24mm and 18mm respectively ; 3. The pipes are made of dissimilar steels Q345/316L. Question 1. After the pipe diameter was changed, we calculated that for 24” and 20” pipes, a wall thickness of 14mm is appropriate. Is this correct? 2. However, considering the rigidity of the pipeline, the wall thickness chosen seems inappropriate. How should rigidity be taken into account, and what principles should be followed to avoid deformation of the pipeline due to rigidity issues after it is installed? 1. The 14mm wall thickness fully meets your operating conditions’ requirements; 2. Regarding the rigidity of the pipes, this issue can be addressed by properly setting the span between pipe supports; stress calculations for the pipes can also be performed.
