(hereinafter referred to as “Jiangsu Sierbang”) successfully installed and put into operation an MTO unit manufactured by UOP. The unit meets all performance guarantees, with an annual production capacity of 833,000 tons. It is currently the largest single-train methanol-to-olefins plant in the world. The Jiangsu Sierbang Petrochemical Base is located in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province. It mainly produces propylene – a raw material used in the manufacture of clothing and fabrics – as well as high-performance polymers used in the production of automotive parts, safety helmets, and other hard plastic products. The methanol-to-olefins plant that has been put into operation this time will also produce ethylene, the raw material for vinyl acetate copolymers, which are widely used in the manufacture of adhesives, blowing agents, medical devices, photovoltaic cells, and other products. It can also produce C4 olefins, which are raw materials for butadiene; butadiene is one of the main ingredients used in the production of synthetic rubber. Ethylene and propylene are the two most widely used raw materials in global plastic manufacturing; traditionally, they are refined from crude oil. The methanol-to-olefins technology can be used to produce ethylene and propylene from alternative feedstocks such as coal and natural gas, making it particularly suitable for regions like China that lack crude oil resources. The reason why Jiangsu Sierbang chose Honeywell UOP’s advanced methanol-to-olefins process technology is that this technology enables the highest yield of light olefins at the lowest production costs, operating costs, and catalyst usage. Furthermore, this device can produce not only ethylene and propylene but also C4 olefins. Honeywell UOP’s advanced methanol-to-olefins process technology combines UOP/Hydro’s methanol-to-olefins technology with Total/UOP’s olefin cracking technology, enabling a significant increase in yield and efficiency in the use of feedstock. This process can extract methanol from coal or natural gas, which can then be converted into ethylene and propylene. At its core is Honeywell UOP’s patented catalyst, which can effectively adjust the ratio of propylene to ethylene production, enabling manufacturers to meet market demands more efficiently.
