It can be used as fuel, and it holds particular potential in the transportation sector, for example as fuel for ships and vehicles. Furthermore, methanol can also be used as a chemical raw material, playing a key role in the production of other chemicals. However, the development of green methanol still faces several challenges, including high production costs, the need for further improvement in technological maturity, and the need to develop relevant infrastructure. Therefore, policy support, technological innovation, and improved cost-effectiveness will be the key factors driving the development of green methanol. Overall, green methanol holds great prospects for development, but it requires the joint efforts and support of all relevant parties to advance its commercialization and widespread application. .

Currently, the production cost of purely green methanol is far too high. The cost of coal-based methanol is 2,500 yuan per ton, while that of purely green methanol is 6,000 yuan per ton. At present, only Europe and the U.S. require that ships use green methanol starting in 2026. However, whether this requirement can actually be met by 2026 or if there will be changes in the international situation remains uncertain. Currently, only China is actively working on these efforts; all these factors could render green methanol nothing more than a joke
The production cost of green methanol is too high; the cost of producing methanol is 6,000 yuan per ton. Without subsidies, companies cannot survive. Currently, green methanol is sold at 6,000–7,000 yuan per ton, but this is merely a lure. Once large-scale production begins, the price will drop, and then it will be a pity to cry over it. It’s okay to carry out preliminary activities now; we can wait and see by 2026. . .
