On December 18, the integrated project in Guyang County, Baotou City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, which focuses on the production of hydrogen using green electricity from new energy sources in combination with biomass to generate 200,000 tons of green methanol, was approved for implementation. Project owner: Xindao Hydrogen Energy Technology (Baotou) Co., Ltd. Location of construction: Inner Mongolia – Baotou City – Guyang County – Jinshan Town Economic Development Zone, Guyang County, Baotou City. Total investment: 420 million yuan, of which 420 million yuan comes from own funds; 0 yuan from bank loans, and 0 yuan from other sources. Planned construction period: from July 2026 to December 2028. Scale and scope of the project: Alcohol hydrogen will be produced using the water electrolysis process, and green methanol will be synthesized by combining this with carbon sources generated from the gasification of agricultural waste such as corn straws and sunflower straws in the Guyang area. The hydrogen and methanol produced by the project can be certified under ISCC EU and ISCC PLUS; they are both considered green, low-carbon products. They can be transported to Tianjin Port via electrified railways, with construction planned in two phases for now. The first phase involves an investment of 3.2 billion yuan. Construction is expected to begin by the end of 2026, with completion and operation scheduled for before December 2028. Construction contents: In the energy section, 67 megawatt-hours of chemical energy storage will be installed; the production facility will include factory buildings, laboratories, control rooms, circulating fluidized bed gasifiers, electrolyzer equipment, methanol synthesis equipment, as well as tanks for storing hydrogen and methanol. Upon reaching full capacity, the plant will produce 140 million cubic meters of hydrogen and 100,000 tons of green methanol per year. The second phase of development will involve an investment of 1 billion yuan, aimed at adding more equipment such as electrolyzers, as well as tanks for storing hydrogen and methanol, in order to increase production capacity. Once the project is fully operational, it will generate 1.485 billion kWh of green electricity per year, 291 million cubic meters of green hydrogen, and 200,000 tons of green methanol.
