Indonesian state oil company plans to pilot the production of bio-methanol from biogas

Recently, Indonesia’s **Oil and New Energy Company announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with a Singaporean company specializing in clean technology, with the aim of exploring the construction of a pilot plant for converting biogas into bio-methanol in the West Mangkang Economic Zone on Sumatra Island in Indonesia. Countek’s cleaning technologies, built on its independently developed CRecREF catalytic technology, can convert carbon-containing gases into high-value chemicals and fuels, thereby contributing to decarbonization and the development of green chemistry. 　　This partnership represents an important step for Indonesia in improving its domestic renewable energy sources and tapping into the potential of biogas. It facilitates the development of new generations of green fuels, enhances Indonesia’s position in the global clean energy supply chain, and supports the reduction of carbon emissions in the maritime industry, thereby adding value to local resources. 　　Indonesia’s **Oil and New Energy Company stated that this partnership is an important step for the company to develop clean energy by leveraging local resources. With an abundance of raw materials such as Indonesian palm oil waste and a strong market demand, and by leveraging the advanced technologies of partners, it is possible to establish a competitive green fuel industry chain. This will enable the project to move from a pilot stage to large-scale commercial use, thereby contributing to the development of Indonesia’s green energy ecosystem. The two parties will jointly conduct feasibility studies on the project; if everything goes well, the relevant catalytic technologies will be applied at the Simankai biogas power plant. In terms of its cleaning technologies, Cretech claims that its technology can convert low-quality biogas into high-value green chemicals on-site, without the need for large investments in traditional methanol production facilities. By leveraging abundant biogas resources and collaborating with local enterprises, it is possible to turn these resource advantages into commercial supplies of bio-methanol.
