On April 30, the 200,000 tons per year biomass liquid fuel project of CIMC Green Energy Low-Carbon Technology (Zhanjiang) Co., Ltd. was approved for registration. The total investment in the project is 1,844.22 million yuan. The production capacity is 200,000 tons of green methanol per year, which will be used as an alternative fuel for the shipping industry and as a raw material for the green chemical industry. The annual output value is expected to reach 1.3 billion yuan. The project timeline is from 2027-05-01 to 2028-11-01. Main construction contents: Expand the biomass liquid fuel production workshop, including the renovation and reuse of liquid fuel production equipment, air separation equipment, and various utility and auxiliary system facilities. The process adopts the “biomass gasification + conversion of biomass natural gas and coupled biomass power generation to produce methanol” process route to synthesize liquid fuel methanol. The main product is methanol, with a production capacity of 200,000 tons per year ; By-products: fusel oil at 2,600 tons per year, ammonia at 8,500 tons per year, carbon dioxide at 372,000 tons per year, fly ash at 79,200 tons, oxygen (compressed or liquefied) at 15,000 tons, nitrogen (compressed or liquefied) at 280,000 tons, and other by-products. The 50,000 tons per year biomass liquid fuel project of CIMC Green Energy Low-Carbon Technology (Zhanjiang) Co., Ltd. is located within the premises of Sinoguang Bioenergy Co., Ltd. in Jianzushui Village, Putang Village Committee, Fucheng Town, Suixi County, Zhanjiang City. The project uses biomass as raw material to produce methanol; syngas is generated by adjusting the hydrocarbon ratio resulting from biomass gasification, and this syngas is then used directly to synthesize methanol. After distillation, the methanol product is obtained. Upon completion, the project’s designed annual production capacity will be: 56,000 tons per year of methanol as the main product, along with 588 tons per year of fusel oil, 7,885 tons per year of ammonia water, 106 tons per year of sulfur, 112,000 tons per year of carbon dioxide gas, and 4,680 tons per year of compressed natural gas. This demonstration project is the first in the world to adopt a biomass gasification-Fischer-Tropsch synthesis coupled direct biomass combustion power generation route. Compared with the route of producing methanol using biomass combined with wind and solar green electricity, its production cost is reduced by 30%, offering significant economic advantages. The research team on circulating fluidized bed technology development at the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, taking into account the characteristics of biomass fuels, has innovatively proposed a new method of phased asynchronous conversion. By combining “mild gasification” with “semicoke autocatalytic cracking”, this method has overcome key technical challenges such as the uniform fluidization of particles with significant size differences, in-situ directional cracking of tar, and prevention of corrosion caused by alkali metal accumulation and ash deposition. As a result, efficient gasification of biomass to produce syngas has been achieved, thus paving the way for the production of high-value green fuels. The project has established the first green methanol \"production-storage-transport-utilization\" supply chain ecosystem in South China: 30,000 m³ of methanol storage tanks along with dedicated loading and unloading berths have been set up at the deep-water port in Zhanjiang, enabling a 1-hour closed-loop system for \"production-storage-transport\" ; A \"same-day delivery\" network for ship refueling in the Greater Bay Area has been established; it represents the closest location in China from which green methanol can be exported to international ports such as Singapore. This setup also significantly reduces the carbon footprint associated with transporting methanol, thereby achieving true end-to-end green and low-carbon operations. On December 16, 2025, the 50,000-ton-per-year biomass liquid fuel production project of CIMC Green Energy Low-Carbon Technology (Zhanjiang) Co., Ltd. was completed and went into official operation. On the same day, CIMC Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Zhanjiang City; CIMC AERIKO Holdings Co., Ltd. entered into a cooperation agreement with the Zhanjiang Development and Reform Bureau; and CIMC Green Energy Company signed an investment intention agreement for Phase 2 with the Suixi County Government.
