The location of Europe's first alcohol-based SAF factory has been finalized at the North Sea Port of Ghent, Belgium.

　LanzaTech Global recently announced that it has selected Europe’s first commercial alcohol-based sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project to be launched in the North Sea Port of Ghent, Belgium. The project has a total investment of 500 million euros and will produce 79,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel and 9,000 tons of renewable diesel annually after completion. It will use LanzaJet's exclusive alcohol-to-jet fuel process. 　　The project is part of the FLITE low-carbon ethanol-to-fuel alliance and has received financial support from the European Union's Horizon 2020 program. At present, the company is about to submit a notice on the scope of environmental impact assessment to the Belgian competent authorities, clearing key obstacles for the project to advance to the investment decision-making stage. 　　The person in charge of the North Sea Port said that the project is in line with the port’s 2030 development plan and the green and low-carbon development goals of Ghent City and Flanders Province. LanzaTech executives said that the Ghent Port Area has a complete industrial ecology and rich cooperation resources. It is adjacent to the ArcelorMittal Steelanol factory and has outstanding raw material supporting advantages. At present, the front-end engineering design of the project has been basically completed, and the factory site has been finalized, raw material supply and product underwriting framework have been implemented. The project fuel fully complies with international aviation carbon offset and EU and UK jet fuel low-carbon mandatory regulations. It can smoothly enter the global high-end compliance market and is expected to become an important cornerstone of Europe's sustainable aviation fuel supply system.
